Griffon RFC News - 09/30/06
Sept 30 - Battle Creek 0 Ann Arbor 57
We took 18 to Ann Arbor, and the intensity and effort was certainly there
in the game, there was no quit in the team. Unfortunately the execution
of some basic skills let us down again. We had 8 re-starts , and of those
eight, seven of them resulted in a scrum to Ann Arbor on the 50 meter
line, with their put in.
We need to be able to adjust quickly within the game to solve these problems.
Kicking for touch from penalties and in normal play also was poorly executed,
meaning that we gave Ann Arbor good field position, and the ability to
counter-attack us. I think our players came up against a well drilled
team with a lot more experience, and some street-wise techniques to put
us off our game (cheat as much as the referee will allow!!).
I think my phrase for this game was "we shot ourselves in the foot",
meaning that we did a couple of good things, and then made a poor decision
resulting in a turnover or a score against us.
We can practice to improve our skills and decision making, and the more
people at practice, the better chance we have of working under pressure
to get used to the intensity of the game.
Thank you to eveyone who travelled, especially the guys who were feeling
ill, and still made the trip to play.
Check out the 2006 Fall schedule.
We had a great time at our 2006 Golf Tournament - see
the pictures here.
Dark Horse Brewery - great news from Don that Dark Horse will provide
our beer. This will save us a lot of money during the year.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to go to Dark Horse and
have a pint or two. Make sure they know you are from the rugby club, and
that we appreciate their sponsorship.
Special thanks to Gary Goidosik for his sponsorship - be sure to
