May 21st, 2005: Battle Creek Griffon RFC 35 v Flint RFC 65
Although the final score shows a large winning margin for Flint, the game
was a heard fought , close encounter , with the Griffons within 2 points
of Flint just after half-time. A quick spurt of 3 scores took Flint out
of sight in the second half.
Scores by Ben Overgaard, followed by kicks from Larry Porter and Eric
Rothney kept the Griffons on track in the first half. Referee Tom Wood
said he was surprised by the large margin of the score when he did the
final tally at the end of the match - he remarked that although Flint
won, the Griffons battled well throughout the game. For Flint, veteran
back John Stenger did some damage with three tries in the game. Now it
is time for Sevens season, and preparations for the Last
Rites Of Spring tournament.
