Griffon RFC News - 03/19/05
March 19th, 2005 :
The Griffons narrowly lost their Spring season opener on Saturday against
Northern Michigan University, by a score of 0 - 10.
Northern made the long journey down to Battle Creek, thinking they would
find Spring Break conditions compared to the snowy weather in Marquette,
MI, but unfortunately Mother Nature did not cooperate, and it was a cold
muddy opening day for both teams.
Each side attempted to run the ball despite the conditions, but as the
ball become wetter and muddier, it proved elusive, and keeping possession
of the ball became more difficult for both teams.
Ken Burdett came close in the first half for the Griffons, diving towards
the line, but being held up just inches short by the stubborn NMU defense.
NMU scored a try in each half, and held on despite the Griffons best efforts
to claim some points.
The Griffons next game is against Bowling
Green State University, from Bowling Green , Ohio, on Saturday
March 26th at the Battle Creek Rugby field.
All supporters are encouraged to come out and support the Griffons.
