Match Report - Sept 12 - BC vs. Traverse City

Traverse City traveled with a strong side to BC and posted a 41-7 win on September 12th . The TC scrum was dominant in set pieces and made clean ball for BC difficult. BC started a new hooker and new prop as well as second row players who this year moved up from the high school side, and were not able to managed the veteran tight pack from TC.

Traverse City sustained a 12-13 phase possession for the first score of the game and quick and effective rucking left BC playing defense for most of the first half. In the second half several substitutions by both sides into the tight five leveled this phase and BC was able to mount several sustained attacking movements which finally led to Frenando Rosa driving over from 5 meters out for the score which was converted to account for BC’s 7 points in the match. Battle Creek used 22 players in the match and produced a strong 2nd half which only allowed for 2 TC scores.

Shayne Gendron

Sad news to report, the untimely death of our friend and Griffon player Shayne Gendron, who passed away on Saturday, July 11th, 2009.
Shayne was a stalwart in the Griffon pack, and loved the game and camaraderie of rugby.

July 14th: Tues evening 6:00 -9:00 PM a get together at the Griffon Pub to remember Shayne with a toast and a fun story, pictures are welcome.
July 15th: Wed. morning burial ceremony at the VA cemetery in Fort Custer at 10:30 AM. Please wear a rugby jersey if you've got one.

Wed after the ceremony at the cemetery, a luncheon will be served at the Eagles lodge .
