Battle Creek Rugby Club History

The club was formed to

  • promote rugby as a club sport
  • offer instruction in developing skills and fitness levels.

Rugby is a popular international game and participated in across the entire United States.

The club was formed by four players who grew tired of traveling to Kalamazoo for practice and matches.

Battle Creek Rugby Football Club's first match was played in the summer of 1976 at Kellogg Community College.

Many of the original members are still actively involved with the club.
Many former players are involved in rugby throughout the United States.

The club is open to anyone interested in

  • playing
  • coaching
  • supporting the sport of rugby.

The club currently has many members, but new members are always welcome. At practices, your fellow Griffons will teach you the rules and the technique needed to play this aggressive sport.

The best part about rugby is its low cost, mostly because of the lack of equipment needed making it a universal sport almost anyone can participate in.

Players provide their own

  • shorts
  • socks
  • cleats
  • mouthpieces

The team provides the jerseys.
